LCMHS Expects 250 at Thanksgiving Luncheon, Nov 20

MORRISVILLE, VERMONT—Lamoille County Mental Health Services (LCMHS) is gearing up for their annual community Thanksgiving luncheon. The event will be held on Tuesday, November 20 from 11:00 am -1:00 pm at 72 Harrel Street in Morrisville.

This event is truly a community affair, with donations pouring in from neighbors, the Charlmont Restaurant, Salvation Farms, Pete’s Greens, Bourne’s Energy and the local Girl Scouts.

“The girls are so excited to be a part of the community Thanksgiving meal again this year,” says Tara Bredice, a mother of a young girl who, along with her friends have volunteered to make 200 rolls for the meal. Last year, the Girl Scout troop that the girls belong to baked 19 pies for the LCMHS luncheon.

Charlmont Restaurant owner Stephen Benson and his family have donated $500 in food to the event, including the pies that will make a sweet end to the meal. “We donate a significant amount to a different organization each year,” said Benson, “Our contribution to LCMHS is a way to say thank you for the good work they do in our community.”

Thanksgiving at LCMHS is a massive undertaking, encompassing 19 turkeys, 50 pounds of apples, 80 pounds of potatoes, 40 pounds of green beans, 50 pounds of sweet potatoes, 40 pounds of butternut squash, mountains of stuffing, and 200 fresh rolls baked by enthusiastic young hands.

"Salvation Farms is happy to provide locally gleaned crops to Lamoille County Mental Health Services for their community meal this Thanksgiving,” said Theresa Snow, Executive Director of Salvation Farms. “This is a perfect opportunity for our neighbors to enjoy the bounty of Vermont farms as they come together for a meal. It is our privilege to help local farms feed their community in this season of giving thanks."

Along with volunteers from the community, the meal is prepared by staff from LCMHS Children, Youth & Family Services, Adult Behavioral Health, Administration, and Developmental Services. Last year, the luncheon served 250 people.

“It is a great opportunity for staff to come together in a different way to serve a delicious holiday meal to our consumers and their families,” said LCMHS CEO Savi Van Sluytman, “and to remember that together we create a strong and caring community of support for our neighbors.”
