Public Invited to See How Afterschool Programs Support Children
Each year, the Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO) program at Burlington School District (BSD) serves more than 1,700 K-12 students across nine schools. Join program Director Christy Gallese for “Lights On Afterschool,” a special event designed to give first-hand insight in how Afterschool programs positively affect the children they serve. The event will take place Wednesday, October 24th at 3:30 PM at C.P. Smith Elementary and will feature students from C.P. Smith, Hunt Middle School, and Burlington High School.
“By bringing members of the community into the schools and having them witness the afterschool environment, we can continue to build a great awareness and understanding of the benefits of afterschool and the opportunities available to students in the Burlington School District,” said Christy Gallese.
Gallese noted that there is an interactive agenda, and guests will have the opportunity to hear from students, parents, and staff about the importance of afterschool as well as experience a wide variety of program offerings starting with a performance by the Burlington High School Dance Team, and touring programs such as Be Above, Books and Cooks, Harry Potter’s Potions, Ozo Bots, and more.
