The Vermont State Police will hold its Annual Awards Ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in the House Chamber of the Vermont Statehouse in Montpelier. Commissioner of Public Safety Thomas D. Anderson and Col. Matthew T. Birmingham, director of the state police, will honor members of the agency and others for acts of heroism and community service. They also will recognize 22 sworn and two civilian members of the state police who are receiving promotions.
“This event provides an opportunity to commemorate and thank the members of our organization, which is built on public service and where everyone is committed to doing their best for their communities every single day,” Birmingham said.
After the ceremony, formal photographs with the Vermont State Police Honor Guard and distinguished guests will take place. A reception with light refreshments will follow in the Cedar Creek Room at the Statehouse.

Lifesaving Award
· Trooper Brandon Gallant: For actions taken March 19, 2018, when he assisted the Department for Children and Families in a home check and helped save a mother who was suffering from a drug overdose.
· Trooper Christopher Loyzelle: For actions taken Jan. 12, 2018, when he responded to a call for assistance regarding a man suffering from a drug overdose.
· Sgt. Paul Ravelin: For actions taken Oct. 20, 2017, when he saved then-Richmond Police Chief Al Buck, who suffered a cardiac event while engaged in a pursuit.
Sergeant William Chenard Search and Rescue Award
· New England K9 Search and Rescue: For the organization’s support and assistance to the Vermont State Police in locating lost individuals throughout the state of Vermont.
