Although recognizing that the transition away from a fossil fuel dependent economy towards a cleaner, cheaper, healthier, and more resilient future will require a long term strategy, the students have three demands for action during the final weeks of the legislative biennium.
- Use all of Volkswagen “clean diesel” fraud settlement money to invest in electric school busses and other electrification projects;
- Put a price on the pollution causing global warming. The Governor should start by accepting the recommendation of his Climate Action Commission to study “decarbonization mechanisms” that would benefit the economy, protect the most vulnerable, and reduce pollution; and
- Ban new fossil fuel infrastructure in Vermont.
