Leahy To Visit Swanton And Winooski Friday

Friday, March 16 --

2:15 p.m. – Senator Leahy to tour Leader Evaporator Company, 49 Jonergin Drive, Swanton, the largest U.S. manufacturer for the production of maple syrup equipment.  The company, which began making maple syrup equipment in 1888, employs 75 people, and is concerned about steel tariffs, as any increase in the cost of steel in the United States, but not for Canadian competitors, would impose serious hardships on the Vermont firm’s business and sales.

4:00 p.m. – New England TRIO Association to present the Shirley Chisolm Award to Senator Leahy for his backing of TRIO programs, which support students who are the first in their families to attend college.  Leahy is the Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee.  The presentation will take place in the Resource Room at the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC), 10 East Allen Street, Winooski.
