Tiger Shaw and BMA Head of School Jory Macomber to Speak at Celebrate Burke Feb 25

There are two new and very special reasons to come to Celebrate Burke tomorrow for an evening of dining and dancing to the sounds of the award-winning Wicked Smart Horn Band.  Two-time Olympian and U.S. Ski Team President Tiger Shaw and Jory Macomber, the Head of School at Burke Mountain Academy, will be guest speakers.  You may purchase your tickets securely by clicking here and here is a link to a video to learn more about the event.

Tiger Shaw is the President and CEO of U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), the governing body of the U.S. Olympic Ski and Snowboard teams. Mr. Shaw, a native Vermonter, competed in the 1984 Olympic Winter Games in Sarajevo and the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary. During his athletic career, Mr. Shaw won nine U.S. Championship titles and finished in the top 10 at World Cups.  A 1986 graduate of Dartmouth College in Economics, Mr. Shaw was an NCAA slalom champion while racing for Dartmouth.

Jory Macomber is in his first year as Head of School at Burke Mountain Academy.  He is a BMA alumnus and a former Chairman of the Board of BMA.  Prior to joining BMA, Jory was the Head of the USSA TEAM Academy and was USSA's Vice President of Athlete Career and Education. Jory spent 20 years at the Holderness School as a teacher, administrator, and ski coach. He was an All-American skier at Dartmouth and captain of the Dartmouth Ski Team.

Tiger and Jory will discuss the U.S. Ski Team's designation of Burke Mountain as an Official U.S. Ski Team Development Site and the Ski Team Project, a public-private partnership to improve the infrastructure at Burke Mountain, including by building a high-speed T-bar (to replace the current Poma lift) and expanding snow making capacity.

All proceeds from Celebrate Burke will benefit the Ski Team Project, Kingdom Kids, a charitable foundation dedicated to the betterment of Northeast Kingdom youth, and Friends of Burke Mountain, a nonprofit organization founded to reopen and transform Burke Mountain and to give back to the Northeast Kingdom.

So, get ready to dance, eat some great food, and Celebrate Burke, at 7 PM, on Saturday, February 25, in the Governor’s Ballroom, at the Burke Mountain Hotel and Conference Center.   Friends of Burke Mountain's silent auction includes experiences such as deep sea fishing trips, Patriots and Red Sox tickets, and a Golf and Stay Package at Jay Peak Resort. Tickets are $75 per person and $125/pair.
