A holiday tradition - Vermont Youth Orchestra Association’s OrchestraChorusPalooza Dec 11

The Vermont Youth Orchestra Association (VYOA) performs its annual holiday concert tradition, OrchestraChorusPalooza, on December 11, 2016 at 4:00pm at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts.

The VYOA orchestras and chorus gather to perform this annual favorite. The program has something for everyone with works by Johann Sebastian Bach to the Beatles. This year’s senior soloist is Vermont Youth Orchestra percussionist Connor Zwonik (Colchester High School) performing Michael Colgrass’ Timpani Concerto. Other works include excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s beloved Nutcracker Suite and Rimsky-Korsakov’s exciting Capriccio Espagnol.

Enjoy traditional choral song as the Vermont Youth Chorus performs Giovanni Battista Martini’s Domine, ad adjuvandum me festina  before joining the combined orchestras to perform Leroy Andersen’s ever-popular Sleigh Ride and Irving Berlin’s classic White Christmas.

Tickets are available at www.flynntix.org or call 86-Flynn. With a mission “to develop young people as artists, citizens, and leaders through the shared pursuit of musical excellence,” the VYOA is committed to providing instrumental and choral experiences for students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Over 300 students in grades 1 – 12 from across Vermont and neighboring states participate in our three orchestras, two choruses, a beginning string ensemble, community engagement programs, and summer camps, making the VYOA our region’s premier youth orchestra and chorus program. All of our students leave the VYOA with a respect for music, for learning, and for the arts; attributes that will enhance and inform their adult lives in our communities and beyond.
