9th Annual Vermont Sings For Peace Sunday Sept 18

Vermont's premiere vocal ensemble Counterpoint announces their ninth annual "Sing for Peace" concert! In light of recent world events, this year's donations will benefit the  Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program . In the neighborhoods surrounding Burlington, Vermont, the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program (VRRP) opens doors for uprooted people, helping the world's most vulnerable rebuild their lives. They are part of a nationwide network that breaks through social, cultural, and economic barriers so that previously interrupted lives can flourish. The first welcome begins with navigating American culture, laying solid foundations for a fresh start, and making essential community connections to successfully integrate into our lifestyle and landscape.

This year's celebration of singing and peace includes the Winooski Community Chorus, Solaris Vocal Ensemble, Caledonia Children's Chorus, Robert De Cormier and Friends, and host group Counterpoint. In addition to singing their own repertory focused on peace and social justice, the five choruses will combine in "Lift Every Voice and Sing" and "Blowin' in the Wind," with an audience sing along.

The Vermont Refugee Resettle Program operates under the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI). The US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) began in 1911 with compassionate people who believed that the American dream could offer opportunity to the hardworking and courageous. 15 million people immigrated to the United States in the first two decades of the 20th century. Founded to provide the support services that these newcomers desperately needed to transition to a new life, VRRP provides to those displaced by turmoil in the Middle East and elsewhere through trainings and workshops that assist refugees and immigrants in becoming full participants in all aspect of American life.

The concert takes place on Sunday, Sept 18th at 2:30 pm at Chapel of Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Michael's College, One Winooski Park, Colchester, VT. Admission is free, and donations to the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program will be greatly accepted. Saint Michael's College Edmundite Center for Peace and Justice has provided sponsorship for this concert.

Founded in 2000, and under the direction of Nathaniel G. Lew, Counterpoint is a nationally recognized, Vermont-based, professional vocal ensemble dedicated to performing choral chamber music and engaging student musicians to enhance the cultural life of communities in the state of Vermont and beyond.
