The Orleans County Fair will celebrate its 149th season Aug. 17-21 at the Orleans County Fairgrounds, 278 Roaring Brook Road, in Barton, Vermont. Founded in 1867, this old-time agricultural county fair features animal exhibits and shows, The World of Wonders “Amazement Show” sideshow acts, the Houdini-style Escape Explosion Show, Kachunga and the Alligator, Marko the Master Magician, agricultural displays, chainsaw woodcarvers, harness racing, oxen and horse pulls, tractor and truck pulls, Maple Sugar House, Milking Parlor, petting zoo, Buddy the Clown, arts and crafts, Exhibit Hall, Beer & Wine Garden and midway rides for all ages presented by Dreamland Amusements.

Special activities include Kids Day on Aug 17; Black Cat Hell Drivers automotive stunt show (8 p.m. Aug. 18); and a Demolition Derby at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21 ($3 per demo derby show or $5 for both). The fairgrounds open at 8 a.m.

The midway is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. General parking is free. On-grounds VIP parking is $5. Pay-one-price admission, which includes unlimited rides and entertainment, is $15 Aug. 17-18 and $16 Aug. 19-21. Free admission and kiddie rides for children under 36 inches tall. Special days: $13 for kids under 13 on Aug. 17; $10 for seniors over 62 on Aug. 19; and free for active military and immediate family with Active Military ID on Aug. 20.
