Vermonters will be celebrating solar power and the summer solstice on June 18th, when solar projects throughout Vermont will be open for the second annual Celebrate Solar public tours. Solar customers, host farmers, and owners will be on-hand to speak with the public, answer questions, and explain how solar gives them power. Tour sites will be designated with roadway signage, and a map can be found at http://www.revermont.org/celebrate-solar/
Celebrate Solar tours will give Vermonters the opportunity to get an up-close view of solar systems to learn about the technology, solar economics, and the benefits of solar to our community.
Among the solar sites open to tour June 18:
- Agricultural farms like Champlain Orchards,
- Bennington's Second Congregational Church,
- private homesteads,
- multi-customer shared community solar arrays, and
- some of Vermont's highest producing solar farms.
Along with tours, many participating sites will host refreshments, music, or other entertainment. Other planned solar events include community walking tours of residential solar installations, a tour of a net zero energy building, and a solar powered bluegrass concert.
Special thanks is due to Celebrate Solar sponsors Norwich Technologies, Vermont State Employees Credit Union (VSECU) and Green Mountain Power.
Special events include:
- Solar installer and owners of Grassroots Solar, Bill and Lisa Laberge, will be opening their barn in Dorset for tours and smoothies powered by a custom solar table, and
- the Saxtons River Solar Collective will be hosting a town barn yard sale in their solar field!
New this year - an exciting raffle will be held with prizes from Shelburne Farms, Vermont Creamery, Vermont Smoke & Cure and Cabot Creamery - all business that use solar power at their facilities! Visitors can enter the raffle at any participating site.
