BMH to Hold Public Forum on Cancer Risk Reduction
On Wednesday, May 11th Brattleboro Memorial Hospital’s Comprehensive Breast Care Program will be hosting a public forum focused on cancer risk reduction through lifestyle changes. The Cancer Risk Reduction through Lifestyle Forum will be taking place from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM on the 2nd Floor of BMH’s Richards Building and is free of charge.
The forum will feature exhibits on high risk and genetic risk of developing cancer, the roles of exercise and nutrition in cancer prevention, tools for smoking cessation and stress management, and information about wellness practices such as yoga, reiki, reflexology, massage, meditation and a writing workshop with Spirit of the Written Word. Staff and providers from BMH’s Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Program will be available to conduct risk assessments and share resources for prevention and wellness.
“There is strong evidence that an individual’s risk of developing cancer can be substantially reduced by healthy behavior,” says Kelly McCue, DNP, AOCNS, RN, BMH’s Program Manager for Oncology and Breast Care. “We want to encourage people in our community to learn more about healthy lifestyle practices that can play an important role in prevention.”
There is no need to pre-register for the forum. Complimentary coffee, tea, juice, and nutritious snacks will be served.
