C&S Wholesale Grocers, Vermont Foodbank to team up to fight childhood hunger April 28

LOCAL STUDENTS HONORED BY NATIONAL PROGRAM FOR TAKING ACTION ON THE ISSUE OF CHILD HUNGER

To honor the commitment of kids and teens from Vermont and New Hampshire who participated in generationOn’s Make Your Mark on Hunger campaign, C&S Wholesale Grocers has donated 28,600 pounds of food to the Vermont Foodbank’s Brattleboro location.  At an event on April 28th, the students and teachers will sort donated food for distribution to area agencies.  In attendance will be representatives from Vermont Foodbank, C&S Wholesale Grocers and Mr. Boggio, the principal of Hinsdale Elementary School, who will be accompanied by a group of his students.

From March 15—April 30th, youth across the US have engaged in generationOn’s Make Your Mark on Hunger campaign, which calls kids and teens to take action around the issue of hunger in their communities through hands-on service. One hundred grants were given to youth in all fifty states to support volunteer service as part of the campaign, including youth in New Hampshire and Vermont. Students from Hinsdale Elementary School in NH have been engaged in a service project to educate their peers about making healthier food and drink choices, learning in the process how difficult it can be to afford healthy food on a limited budget. In the neighboring state of Vermont, young people in grades 8-12 will be participating in The Learning Kitchen series run by Hunger Free Vermont, which educates participants about balanced nutrition, stretching food dollars, shopping strategies and cooking techniques.

To date, more than 14,000 young people have participated in the Make Your Mark on Hunger campaign. C&S is a sponsor of generationOn’s Make Your Mark on Hunger campaign.
