Community Kitchen Academy Celebrates Graduation in Burlington

Culinary Students Ready for Employment

 

Burlington, VT—The Vermont Foodbank and Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf (CEFS) are excited to announce the graduation ceremony for the Community Kitchen Academy (CKA) program in Burlington.

"CKA continues to provide positive opportunities as well as great food for people in need,” said Rob Meehan, Executive Director of the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf.

“Community Kitchen Academy graduation is a wonderful occasion to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of our dedicated students,” said John Sayles, Vermont Foodbank CEO.  “For years now, we have worked closely with the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf to develop a skilled culinary workforce while transforming the lives of the students who participate in CKA. We couldn’t be more proud of this valuable partnership.”

This session of Community Kitchen Academy will graduate 10 students, bringing the total to 134 graduates since the program’s inception since 2009. Last year Burlington CKA celebrated 91percent employment placement and. 80 percent job retention. The program has provided more than 200,000 meal servings for Vermonters struggling with hunger.

Students actively develop and apply new skills by creating wholesome meals for those at risk of hunger using food that has been gathered from within our communities that may otherwise go to waste.
