UVM gets top-tree award, will host guided tour of trees on Green April 25

The Arbor Day Foundation has named the University of Vermont a Tree Campus USA. Campuses in the program must meet five standards: having a tree advisory committee; a tree care plan; a dedicated annual expenditure for tree care; an Arbor Day observance; and a service learning project related to trees.

WHAT: Tree Campus USA recognition ceremony and tree planting.  Officials from Vermont Urban and Community Forestry will present UVM with the official Tree Campus USA designation.  After the presentation, mulch will be ceremonially thrown on a honey-locust tree planted earlier in the morning outside the Bailey Howe Library.

WHO:  Officials from , from UVM leadership,  from Vermont Urban and Community Forestry, and from the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation will attend and make brief remarks.

WHEN:  12-12:30. Friday April 25

WHERE: Outside Bailey-Howe Library on the UVM campus.

WHAT ELSE:  At 12:30, horticulturist Mark Starret, a professor in UVM’s Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, will lead a guided tour of the most interesting trees on the UVM green.
