VMS President Cathy Schneider, a general surgeon at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center, who has served in a number of health care leadership roles while practicing in Vermont and New Hampshire, had these words for the recent graduates, “Being a physician leader is not easy, especially during COVID, yet the benefits can have long-lasting impacts. As you complete this leadership course, I want to remind you the experience we have in caring for patients is essential to creating a healthcare environment where patients, practitioners and hospitals thrive. This is a lifelong effort, no matter what your leadership roles look like.”
Dr. Lauren MacAfee, a participating OB/GYN from UVMMC said, “The PELI course has provided an opportunity to connect with and learn from health care providers across the state, as we all seek to improve our leadership and management skills. It has allowed me to build relationships and develop skills that are invaluable and not taught elsewhere. This has been an amazing professional opportunity that I highly recommend to any health care provider interested in cultivating their leadership skills.”
