Pedestrian struck and killed in Waitsfield crosswalk

Vermont State Police On Monday (10/26/2020) at approximately 1140 hours, the Vermont State Police received a report of a single motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Main Street, in the town of Waitsfield near the intersection with Carroll Road.

Troopers identified the operator of Vehicle #1 as June Sardi (84) of Warren, VT. The pedestrian was identified as Mariah McGill (43) of Waitsfield, VT. McGill was transported to Central Vermont Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.

Operator #1 was traveling South on Main St when she struck McGill, who was crossing the crosswalk at the intersection of Main St and Carroll Rd.

This motor vehicle crash is still under investigation. Anyone who witnessed this crash is encouraged to contact Trooper Lambert at the Middlesex State Police Barracks.

Sardi was issued a citation and released to answer to the charge of Gross Negligent Operation, a violation of Title 23 VSA Section 1091.

Troopers were assisted on scene by members of the Mad River Valley Ambulance and Fire Department.
