VMEC: Process improvement and quality fundamentals

For an organization to pursue excellence and control costs, there must be internal capability for effective and sustainable process improvement. VMEC is preparing to present a multi-week course later this summer where participants will learn the tools, techniques and necessary planning to improve a business process and achieve better outcomes with increased efficiency. This course will enable participants to contribute to process improvement initiatives, while getting a comprehensive understanding of how quality management has and continues to evolve in all business sectors.

Also, an added value for participating in this valuable course is preparation to attain the Certified Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA) status with the American Society for Quality (ASQ). Stay tuned for complete details in an upcoming e-blast!

In early March, a team at UVM had an idea for an easy-to-produce, inexpensive ventilator in response to the call from the Department of Health for help in addressing the ventilator shortage in the US. In three months, the team prototyped a novel concept, built pre-production units, tested them per the FDA EUA (emergency use approval) process, and submitted FDA documents for review and approval. In addition, VMEC responded to the call for help by lining up a consortium of Vermont manufacturers to fabricate parts and assemble the units.
Join VT ASQ, Dr. Jason Bates, UVM Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Engineering and Michael Lane, Director of the University of Vermont's IMF (Instrumentation Model Facility) Labs to learn how an idea was turned into a device that, when approved by the FDA, could have important value to pandemic healthcare responders in the U.S. as well as in many developing countries.

VMEC is applying rapid improvement and innovation methods to adapt its services and workshops where possible to remote delivery so that we can continue to assist you on your COVID-19 Recovery and Resilience-building journeys. While we hope to soon be able to visit your facility to assess needs and facilitate projects with small groups, we expect it could be a while before we can provide on-site and/ or public training for large groups.
