New Guidance for Hair Salons and Religious Facilities
Agency of Commerce & Community Development On Friday Governor Scott announced that hair salons and barber shops may reopen May 29, 2020 with limited operations. Religious facilities and places of worship may also reopen at 25% capacity. Mandatory health and safety requirements apply, as well as more specific guidance available in the Recovery Resource Center.
ACCD worked with VTrans to provide guidance on the use of public rights of way for restaurants and retail businesses. The guidance lays out considerations and steps to ensure social distancing to enable a wider restart of retail operations and restaurants, in a way that does not increase the risk of auto-related injuries, addresses pedestrian safety and accessibility, and shares items towns and businesses should consider when using the street during these times.
Water Quality Checks at Reopening Businesses
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is reminding businesses that are reopening to check, and if needed, flush their water systems to ensure the best water quality for employees or patrons. DEC has issued guidance to help businesses ensure their systems are functioning properly upon restart of operations.
Department of Labor Launches New Unemployment Program
The new Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) program provides an additional 13 weeks of benefits to individuals who have exhausted their regular state unemployment insurance claim. Individuals will also receive Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), an additional $600 to their weekly benefits through the week ending July 25, 2020.
Retail and Craft Beverage Economic Recovery Package Webinars
On Tuesday, May 26, 2020 ACCD will host sector specific webinars for the retail sector at 12:15pm and for breweries and distilleries at 3:00pm to offer details on the Governor's proposed $400 economic recovery and relief package.
Families First Coronavirus Act Webinar
Join the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce for "An Overview of FFCRA" with Sheehey Furlong & Behm on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 from 9:00am – 10:30am. The webinar will provide an overview of the Families First Coronavirus Act (FFCRA) and its interaction with other state and federal programs. This webinar is free but registration is capped at 90, so please register in advance.
Memorial Day Promotional Campaign
The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing has launched a Memorial Day promotion aimed at Vermonters, encouraging residents to get outdoors and support local businesses. The campaign focuses on R&R during these times – meaning when you go out to rediscover Vermont, to do it with respectto the guidelines and those around you. Promotion for the campaign is live on social, in digital banners on local news sites, and on live radio reads through Monday.
