Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Agency of Transportation announces that the North Hero – Grand Isle drawbridge replacement project on US Route 2 has resumed construction and the temporary drawbridge will be operational tomorrow.

Mariners will be able to travel through this area daily until October 15, 2020. New channel restrictions will be in place May 18 through June 12. The channel will be restricted to a 20-foot width between openings from 7 AM until 6 PM. These restrictions will enable the contractor to complete channel interfering work, and they also provide for the safety of all waterway users and construction workers. All mariners must pass with extreme caution and NO WAKE.

A different schedule for opening times and additional restrictions will be in place from May 26 through June 6:

  • May 26-30: drawbridge openings at 8am, 12pm, 5pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm. The channel will be completely closed between openings to all vessels.
  • June 1-6: drawbridge openings at 8am, 12pm, 5pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm. The channel will be completely closed between openings to all vessels.

The drawbridge will otherwise continue to open at the top of the hour between 8 AM and 8PM, 7 days per week until October 15, 2020. There will be no restrictions on Sundays or Memorial Day Weekend.

To request an opening or to communicate with the bridge tender, please use Channel 13 or 802-372-4360. The bridge tender will be available daily between 8 AM and 8PM.

As part of Governor Scott’s "Work Smart, Stay Safe" order, all construction crews are currently subject to safety restrictions and precautions.

For questions regarding this project or to be added to weekly construction update emails, contact AOT Public Information Consultant Jacqueline Dagesse at [email protected] or 802-324-5522. More information is on the project website.

The Coast Guard will announce the closure with a Broadcast Notice to Mariners. The waterway closure dates will be published in the weekly First District Local Notice to Mariners.
