Vermont Agency of Transportation This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will have traffic impacts on state highways throughout Vermont for the week of November 14, 2022. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.
Interstates
I-91 Bradford – The single-lane closure near Exit 16 is anticipated to be fully removed this coming week with two lane travel restored until next construction season.
I-91 Fairlee – St. Johnsbury – Traffic has been restored to two lanes along the interstate. Motorists shouldn’t expect any traffic impacts until work resumes next construction season.
I-91 Lyndon – Barton – Travelers can expect daily lane closures in the vicinity of active construction between Exits 23 and 25 from Monday to Friday during daytime construction hours (6 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Speed is reduced to 55 mph in the work zone.
I-91 Westminster – An interstate bridge deck replacement project over VT 121 is underway. Southbound traffic has been diverted onto the northbound barrel and northbound traffic is limited to the right-hand travel lane. Motorists: be aware of a work zone speed reduction. Fines are doubled for speeding within the construction zone.
An alternating one-way traffic pattern is in effect on VT 121 underneath the bridges.
Around the State
Alburgh – A deck replacement project is underway on the Mother's Bridge on U.S. 2 over Lake Champlain between North Hero Island and Alburgh. Flagged traffic may be in effect intermittently. Minimal delays anticipated.
Andover – Bridge #9 over Trout Brook on Weston-Andover Rd. reopened on 11/04. Motorists can expect bridge traffic to be reduced to one lane with flaggers to assist motorists as crews install line striping, seal exposed concrete surfaces, and complete erosion control activities.
Brattleboro – Newfane – A roadway project continues along VT 30 from Cedar Street in Brattleboro to Newfane. A two-lane traffic shift is in place in Dummerston in the vicinity of ledge operations. An alternating one-way traffic pattern will be in effect throughout the project area in various locations. Delays may occur.
Buels Gore – VT 17 will be closed on 11/16 just west of the border with Fayston from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. for a culvert replacement.
Burlington – A paving project nears completion along U.S. 2/Main St. from South Willard St. to I-89, Riverside Ave. and along North Willard St. to the intersection with Riverside Ave. Work hours are 7 p.m. – 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Minimal traffic impacts expected.
Burlington, Shelburne Street Roundabout – Nightwork will be completed throughout the week on Shelburne St. and South Willard St. beginning with lane reductions starting at 6 p.m. and a full roadway closure taking effect by 8 p.m.
Shelburne St. will then be closed to through traffic between Marian St. and Adams Ct. South Willard St will be closed to through traffic between Shelburne St and Chittenden Dr. Ledge Rd, Chittenden Dr, and Locust St via Shelburne St will be closed at their intersection with Shelburne St.
The roundabout will reopen daily between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to follow the signed detour to avoid delays. Trucks are required to follow the signed detour route.
Chelsea – Thetford – A resurfacing project continues on VT 113. There will be an intermittent single-lane closure with alternating one-way traffic as crews continue punch list work and cleanup activities.
Chester – A bridge deck replacement project is underway on VT 103 just south of Smokeshire Rd. Traffic has permanently shifted to the new bridge. Motorists should expect lane closures with alternating one-way traffic along VT 103 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Essex – Two-way traffic will be maintained on VT 289 with lane shifts in place as crews work on final paving, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Minor delays anticipated.
Essex – Colchester – Motorists can expect delays along VT 2A with traffic control allowing for one lane of alternating travel within the work area for a resurfacing project.
Hardwick – A paving project continues on VT 14 and VT 15. Motorists should expect lane closures with alternating one-way traffic along both routes between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Ludlow – The VT 103 (Main Street) Bridge No. 26 over Jewell Brook is open to motor vehicle traffic. Motorists can expect intermittent alternating one-way traffic as crews continue punch list work.
Montgomery – A set of bridge deck replacements continues along VT 118. Motorists will encounter one-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers during the day.
Newfane – The Depot Rd. arch bridge over Rock River remains closed for replacement. Traffic will be rerouted from the north via Grimes Hill Rd. and from the south via VT 30. Through traffic is not permitted. Grimes Hill Rd. and Dover Rd. (at the intersection with Depot Rd.) are reduced to one-lane operations with signals.
North Hero – Grand Isle – Traffic along U.S. 2 has been shifted onto the new drawbridge. Drivers will continue to encounter flagged one-way alternating traffic during work hours with two-way traffic overnight as crews remove the temporary drawbridge and work on punch list items.
Poultney – A bridge replacement project continues at the intersection of Thrall Rd. and River St. approximately 1.37 miles from the intersection of VT 30 and Thrall Rd. Minor flagging operations are expected near River St. throughout the week.
Richford – A bridge replacement project continues along VT 105 approximately one mile south of the intersection of Main St. and River St. Motorists may encounter flaggers letting construction vehicles in and out of the work zone.
Richmond – Bolton – A rehabilitation project continues along U.S. 2. Motorists will encounter areas of one-way alternating traffic Monday through Friday during the day within the work areas.
South Hero – An intersection improvement project is underway at U.S. 2 and VT 314. Work will be completed off the roadway with minimal impacts to traffic.
Stowe – Travelers can expect alternating one-lane traffic along VT 100 near its intersection with West Hill Rd. to accommodate road widening work on each end of the project site. Crews will work from 6:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Monday - Thursday) and 6:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Alternating one-lane traffic will generally occur between 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Motorists should reduce speed and travel with caution through the active construction zone.
Williston – Motorists should expect new lane configurations on U.S. 2 as the second eastbound left turn lane onto Industrial Ave. is opened to traffic.
Weather permitting, on Tuesday, 11/15, motorists can also expect one lane of alternating traffic along U.S. 2 approx. 1 mile west of its intersection with VT 117 to allow for paving and line striping on a culvert project.
Wilmington – Brattleboro – A repaving project continues on VT 9. Motorists can expect alternating one-way traffic as crews continue line striping on side roads and cleanup activities.
Winooski – A roadway project nears completion along East Allen St./VT 15. Nighttime work hours are 7 p.m. – 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Minor to no delays expected.
Woodford – A ledge stabilization project is nearly complete on VT 9. Little to no traffic impacts expected for the remainder of the season.
Woodstock – Hartland – A paving project continues along U.S. 4. Motorists can expect minimal traffic delays throughout the project limits as crews clean drainage inlets.
