AOT Road Construction Report ​​​​​​​Week of November 7

Vermont Agency of Transportation This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will have traffic impacts on state highways throughout Vermont for the week of November 7, 2022. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.

Interstates

I-89 Richmond – Following paving, line striping, and the removal of the crossover, work on the culvert replacement project is substantially complete. No further traffic impacts are expected.

I-91 Bradford – A single-lane closure remains in place in the southbound lanes near Exit 16 for ongoing bridge maintenance. A speed limit reduction to 55 mph remains in effect.

I-91 Fairlee – St. Johnsbury – Preventative maintenance repairs to bridges along the interstate continue. Motorists are advised of shifting traffic patterns over the course of the week as the contractor works to restore two-lane travel in multiple work zones. Speed limit reductions remain in effect.

I-91 Lyndon – Barton – Travelers can expect daily lane closures in the vicinity of active construction between Exits 23 and 25 from Monday to Saturday during daytime construction hours (6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Speed is reduced to 55 mph in the work zone.

I-91 Westminster – A bridge deck replacement project over VT 121 is underway. I-91 has been reduced to one lane of travel in both directions across the bridges. Southbound traffic will be diverted onto the northbound barrel on Tuesday, 11/08. Northbound traffic will be limited to the right-hand travel lane. Motorists: be aware of a work zone speed reduction - fines are doubled for speeding within the construction zone.

An alternating one-way traffic pattern is in effect on VT 121 underneath the bridges.

Around the State

Alburgh – A deck replacement project continues on the Mother's Bridge on U.S. 2 over Lake Champlain between North Hero Island and Alburgh. Flagged traffic may be in effect intermittently. Minimal delays anticipated.

Andover – Bridge #9 over Trout Brook on Weston-Andover Rd. is reopened to traffic as of 11/04. Motorists can expect bridge traffic to be reduced to one-lane with flaggers as crews pave the bridge and begin line striping.

Brattleboro – Newfane – A roadway project is underway along VT 30 from Cedar Street in Brattleboro to Newfane. A two-lane traffic shift is in place in Dummerston in the vicinity of ledge operations. An alternating one-way traffic pattern will be in effect throughout the project area in various locations. Delays may occur.

Burlington – A paving project nears completion along U.S. 2/Main Street from South Willard St. to I-89, Riverside Ave. and along North Willard St. to the intersection with Riverside Ave. Nighttime work hours are 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Minimal delays expected.

Burlington, Shelburne Street Roundabout – Nightwork will be completed on Shelburne St. and South Willard St. throughout the week beginning with lane reductions starting at 6 p.m. and a full roadway closure taking effect by 8 p.m.

During this time, Shelburne St will be closed to through traffic between Marian St and Adams Ct. South Willard St will be closed to through traffic between Shelburne St and Chittenden Dr. Ledge Rd, Chittenden Dr, and Locust St via Shelburne St will be closed at their intersection with Shelburne St.

The roundabout will reopen daily between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to follow the signed detour route to avoid delays. Through trucks are required to follow the signed detour route.

Chelsea – Thetford – A resurfacing project continues on VT 113. There will be an intermittent single-lane closure with alternating traffic as crews continue punch list and cleanup activities.

Chester – A bridge deck replacement project is underway on VT 103 just south of Smokeshire Rd. Speed and lane-width reductions are in effect throughout the project area. VT 103 Bridge #16 remains closed. Traffic is being maintained on a temporary bridge.

Essex – Two-way traffic will be maintained on VT 289 with lane shifts in place as crews work on final paving, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Minor delays anticipated.

Essex – Colchester – Motorists can expect delays along VT 2A with traffic control allowing for one lane of alternating travel within the work area for a resurfacing project.

Hardwick – A paving project continues on VT 14 and VT 15. Motorists should expect lane closures with alternating one-way traffic along both routes between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Ludlow – The VT 103 (Main Street) Bridge No. 26 over Jewell Brook is open to motor vehicle traffic. Motorists can expect alternating one-way traffic as crews pour the sidewalk, pave the bridge and all approaches, and begin punch list work.

Montpelier – Motorists may encounter occasional one-way flagged traffic at the rail crossing along U.S. 2 between Gallison Hill Rd. and the traffic circle as crews work on miscellaneous items related to the crossing improvements project.

Montgomery – A set of bridge deck replacements continues along VT 118. Motorists will encounter one-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers during the day and temporary traffic signals during off-hours between West Hill Rd. and Bank St.

Newfane – The Depot Road arch bridge over Rock River remains closed while the bridge is replaced. Traffic will be rerouted from the north via Grimes Hill Rd. and from the south via VT 30. Through traffic is not permitted. Grimes Hill Rd. and Dover Rd. (at the intersection with Depot Road) are reduced to one-lane operations with signals.

North Hero – Grand Isle – Drawbridge construction continues along U.S. 2. A speed reduction remains in place. Mariners: The seasonal operating schedule for the drawbridge has ended. Now through November 15, 2022, the temporary drawbridge will be de-constructed. There will be a vertical height restriction during this time. Vessels that can pass under the bridge without an opening may do so if at least four-hour notice is given by calling the bridge tender, (802) 372-4360.

Poultney – A bridge replacement project is underway at the intersection of Thrall Rd. and River St. approximately 1.37 miles from the intersection of VT 30 and Thrall Rd. River Street access has been restored to two-way travel. Flagging operations are anticipated on Thrall Rd. and River St. toward the end of the week.

Richford – A bridge replacement project continues along VT 105 approximately one mile south of the intersection of Main St. and River St. Motorists may encounter flaggers letting construction vehicles in and out of the work zone.

Richmond – Bolton – A rehabilitation project continues along U.S. 2. Motorists will encounter areas of one-way alternating traffic Monday through Friday during the daytime within the work areas.

South Hero – An intersection improvement project is underway at U.S. 2 and VT 314. Work will be completed off the roadway with minimal impacts to traffic.

Stowe – Travelers can expect alternating one-lane traffic along VT 100 near its intersection with West Hill Rd. to accommodate the construction of the road widening on each end of the project site. Crews will work from 6:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Mondays - Thursdays) and 6:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Fridays. Alternating one-lane traffic will generally occur between 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Motorists should reduce speed and travel with caution through the active construction zone.

Williston – Motorists can expect minimal lane closures on VT 2A between Hurricane Lane and Taft Corners as most work will occur off the roadway this week.

Motorists should also expect new lane configurations on U.S. 2 as the second eastbound left turn lane onto Industrial Ave. is opened to traffic.

Wilmington – Brattleboro – A repaving project continues on VT 9. Motorists can expect alternating one-way traffic along VT 9 as crews begin line striping on side roads and cleanup activities.

Winooski – A roadway project is nearing completion along East Allen St./VT 15. Nighttime work hours are 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Motorists should expect one-way alternating traffic during nighttime operations. Minor to no delays expected.

Woodford – A ledge stabilization project is underway on VT 9. Anticipate one-way alternating traffic regulated by flaggers throughout the early part of the week. Eastbound traffic is reduced to one lane; a lane shift for westbound traffic remains in place. Motorists are urged to lower speeds when coming down the hill into the project area. A speed reduction to 40 mph remains in effect.

Woodstock – Hartland – A paving project continues along U.S. 4. Motorists can expect periodic alternating one-way traffic as crews work on punch list items and project cleanup.
