
Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve has announced its 2022 award recipients for service and support to Vermont’s Guard and Reserve members. At their annual banquet held recently in Jericho, Vt. ESGR presented a total of 55 awards to over 23 employers who provided outstanding support over the past year. Guest speaker for the event was Major General Gregory Knight, Adjutant General, State of Vermont.
Top award recipients receiving the “Pro Patria” award were Greensea Systems, Inc, of Richmond, small business private sector category, and General Electric Aviation, North Clarendon, large business private sector category. The Pro Patria is the highest award that a state ESGR office can present.
Other awards presented or recognized included the “Above and Beyond” award, for support that exceeds an employer’s basic requirements under Federal law. Recipients included City of Burlington Parks, Recreation and Waterfront, Burlington; General Dynamics Ordnance & Tactical Systems, Williston; General Electric Aviation, North Clarendon; Greensea Systems, Inc.; Southwestern Vermont Health Care, Bennington; St. Albans Police Department, St. Albans; Tri-Valley Transit, Middlebury; University of Vermont Medical Center, Burlington; and Vermont Department of Mental Health, Waterbury. Vt. ESGR also recognized twelve Vermont employers who were nominated by their citizen service member employees for the prestigious Secretary of Defense Freedom Award. This is the highest award presented nationwide to employers who provide exceptional support to their citizen soldiers, airmen, sailors, Marines, and Coast Guard members. First level nominees included Casella Construction, Inc., Mendon; Central Vermont Medical Center, Berlin; Colchester School District, Colchester; General Dynamics Ordnance & Tactical Systems, Williston; GE Aviation, North Clarendon; Greensea Systems, Inc., Richmond; National Life Group, Montpelier; Southwestern Vermont Health Care, Bennington; State of Vermont Military Department, Colchester; University of Vermont Medical Center, Burlington; and Vermont Department of Mental Health, Waterbury. Vermont has won this award twice since its inception and this year, Greensea Systems, Inc. and GE Aviation were part of only 150 from over 2,700 nominees nationwide who moved on to a second level.
The “Seven Seals” award was presented to agencies and individuals who have supported the ESGR mission of enhancing relationships among members of the Guard and Reserve, their families, and their civilian employers. Recipients were Caledonia Special Investigations Unit, LLC, St. Johnsbury; Casella Construction, In., Mendon; Central Vermont Medical Center, Berlin; Colchester School District, Colchester; National Life Group, Montpelier; and State of Vermont Military Department, Colchester.
The following recipients of the ESGR Patriot Award were also recognized. In many cases, the Patriot Award was the foundation for their higher-level awards. Recipients included:
