Popular state auction returns Saturday, vehicles, tools, more

Vermont Business Magazine The Department of Buildings and General Services is auctioning a large assortment of State vehicles and equipment to the public beginning at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in Berlin, VT. This annual in-person physical auction is expected to be very well attended.

A major collection of state vehicles and equipment will be auctioned off to the highest bidder including dump trucks, plow trucks, pick-up trucks, fleet passenger vehicles, boats, four wheelers, snow mobiles, paddle boats, riding mowers, tools, tires, miscellaneous parts, and more.

In addition to the auction, a sales booth will be set up from 8:00 to 10:00 AM for the surplus “airport sharps.” The “airport sharps” include a selection of hand tools, hunting knives, pocketknives, pocket tools, and cork screws. There will also be more than a dozen sets of tires for sale that are new and/or barely used. Look for some incredible deals!

“It is an absolute auction with no reserves. All vehicles and equipment will be sold to the highest bidder rain or shine,” said Sarah Grenier, the State’s Surplus Property Coordinator. “This auction is on many calendars across New England and Quebec. It has become a destination event for many who come year after year in hopes of obtaining a good deal on a vehicle or piece of equipment,” said Grenier. State officials are hopeful that a portion of the equipment and vehicles find their way back to serve Vermont communities.

The auction will be held at the Agency of Transportation Central Garage located at 1756 US Route 302, in Berlin, Vermont (05602), across from the Wayside Restaurant.

Auction registration and vehicle previews will be held on Friday, May 12, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and again on Auction Day, May 13, 2023, from 8:00 AM until the event ends.

“These auctions are designed for the State to recapture some of the funds invested in this equipment by taxpayers over the years. Finding new homes for this equipment is a win-win for the State and countless communities, contractors, and the public who save money by obtaining some valuable items at auction prices. Vermont remains one of the last states in New England to host live auctions,” said Sarah Grenier
