Vermont State Chamber Chooses New President

Duane Marsh has been chosen the new President of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce. Marsh, a resident of Midland, Michigan succeeds Christopher Barbieri who resigned in April to relocate to Shanghai as the Vermont Chamber's International Trade Liaison.
Marsh will assume his new position with the Vermont Chamber of Commerce on Monday, September 29, 2003.
Marsh was formerly President of the Midland (Michigan) Area Chamber of Commerce which he headed from 1997 until 2003. Midland is an 850 member chamber with 10 employees and an annual budget of $850,000. He holds an MBA from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, MI.
Marsh has extensive experience as a leader in a career spanning more than 20 years. He has worked in a variety of chamber positions in Michigan including; Executive Vice President of the Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber in Taylor, Executive Director of the Livonia Chamber of Commerce in Livonia, and Vice President of the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce in Saginaw. He was formerly President of the Anderson Chamber of Commerce in Anderson, Indiana.
The process of choosing a new president for the chamber took four months and involved the Executive Committee of the Chamber's Board of Directors which was expanded in this process to include four additional board members. After careful consideration in weighing all factors the search and selection committees chose Duane Marsh.
"Duane Marsh was chosen as the new president," said Board Chairman Carl Spangler, "because he's an articulate, dynamic leader with a lot of depth in managing chambers of commerce. He's a very good mentor of staff, has an excellent record in staff development and membership growth, and he brings depth to the Vermont Chamber's efforts to lobby for business issues in the statehouse."
