Soundtivity Wireless, Inc Announces deployment of new NLOS (Non-Line-of-Site) Broadband Wireless network in Grand Isle and South Hero, Vermont
February 21st, 2006. Burlington, Vermont Today, Soundtivity announced the beginning of construction of a wireless telecommunications system that will bring High Speed Internet and other advanced IP services to the Towns of Grand Isle, South Hero, and the Vermont and New York shores of Lake Champlain.
The new system will pave the way to further economic development in the Champlain Valley allowing residents to work from home, local businesses to conduct global commerce, and school children to have access to a wealth of information online all at the speed of thought.
We believe that high-speed Internet services are the cornerstone of the new economy and a necessary building-block to the future of our state, said Soundtivity CEO Jeremy Ward.
Similar systems have been deployed in Jericho, Shelburne, Colchester, and Burlington by the company, but this one is special. A $49,500 Broadband Demonstration Grant has been secured by the Town of South Hero, Soundtivity, and the Grand Isle Broadband Council, a local citizen activist group.
A similar grant for $36,400 has also been secured for North Hero by Soundtivity and the Grand Isle Regional Development Corporation. The North Hero leg of the network will be added on once Grand Isle and South Heros deployment has begun.
We met a lot of challenges in the permitting process on one of our primary transmission sites, a water tower located at the Ed Weed Fish Hatchery. These challenges have made this a long road up until this point, but it will all be worth it when the first subscriber comes online, continued Ward.
On Wednesday, Governor Jim Douglas and others will join together at the Ed Weed Fish Hatchery for a ceremonial ground-breaking to officially kick-off the project. The event will begin at 3:00pm.
