Vermont Chamber President Steps Down

Duane Marsh, President of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, has accepted the position of Executive Director of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association. Marsh, who has been with the Vermont Chamber since September of 2003, will begin his new position in early January.

As a former funeral director, with family still in the business in Michigan, the lure of renewing the funeral service connection made this position highly desirable, Marsh said. I have enjoyed my tenure in Vermont and will leave here with many fond and lasting memories.

Rick Milliken, Chair of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, stated, Duane has served honorably for the past five years as the leader of the Vermont Chamber. He has been a tireless worker and has built a great team of professionals. Milliken, who is working with the Vermont Chamber leadership to create a transition team, stated, We wish Duane well in his new and challenging position, and we thank him for his dedicated advocacy on behalf of the business community of Vermont.

Marsh cites the following accomplishments as highlights in his five years of service to the Vermont employer community: The Vermont Chamber's ability and willingness to challenge the status quo, protecting and promoting a strong business environment in Vermont, and establishing a real-time voting record for state legislators.

In addition, Marsh is credited with spearheading advancements in marketing tourism to and within Vermont and delivering Vermont products and services to the worldwide market; with Marsh at the helm, the Vermont Chamber has also facilitated industry education and workforce development, and developed an online training and information network.

Looking back over his time with the Vermont Chamber, Marsh stated, I am especially proud of the excellent quality of the Vermont Chamber staff, programming to serve Vermont's employer community, and the solid financial position of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce.
