Johnson State College announces new faculty appointments
JOHNSON - Johnson State College has announced the appointments of three faculty members.
They include:
Dr. Sharon Twigg, Assistant Professor in the JSC Writing/Literature Department.
Dr. Twigg has a Ph.D in English (19th Century British Literature and Culture), from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2006; a M.A. in English from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1999; and a B.A. in English from the University of New Hampshire in 1992. Dr. Twigg taught writing and literature at Marquette University, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for two years before joining JSC this fall. She and her husband, George, live in Johnson.
Dr. Julie Theoret, Associate Professor in the Mathematics Department.
Dr. Theoret received two degrees from the University of Virginia: a Ph.D in Nonassociative Algebra in 1999; and a M.A. in Mathematics in 1997. She also has a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Vermont in 1993. Prior to joining JSC this fall, she was an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Lyndon State College for eight years, and also ran Lyndons secondary education program in mathematics. She lives in Jeffersonville.
F. Reed Brown
Professor Brown has been a Visiting Professor in the Fine and Performing Arts Department at JSC for two years, and has now been hired into a full-time, tenure-track position, beginning this fall. He has a M.A. in Fine Arts from Illinois State University, and a B.A. from the University of South Florida.
Brown has an impressive background as an actor, director, choreographer and theater co-founder. Browns previous work in Vermont included several projects with Bread and Puppet Theater. He was co-founder of the Ozark Actors Theater (OAT), an Equity Theater at the University of Missouri - Rolla, where he appeared in 'The Elephant Man', 'A Christmas Carol,' 'The Actor's Nightmare,' ' The Boys Next Door',' Lend Me a Tenor.' 'Smoke on the Mountain,' 'In White America,' and 'Once Upon a Mattress.' In 14 years as artistic director at OAT, Brown directed and/or designed more than 60 productions. Brown also stage managed 11 seasons for the St. Louis Rep., the largest African-American theater company in the country, including 'Sty of the Blind Pig,' 'Ain't Misbehavin',' and 'Godspell.' Also in St. Louis, Brown directed 'Corpus Christi' at the St. Marcus, and for two years, choreographed the Disability Project for That Uppity Theatre Company. As an actor, Brown appeared in his one-man show, Vincent, in performances from Florida to Canada. He also appeared in 'Coriolanis' at the McCarter Theater in Princeton, New Jersey, directed Liviu Ciulei; and as Hamlet in the US premiere of Heiner Muller's 'Hamletmachine' with the Free Theater of Munich. In New York City, he appeared at La Mama ETC (Experimental Theater Club), Manhattan Ensemble, Divine Theatre, Theater for the New City, and Cortland Repertory Theatre.
