Jay Peak opens doors today to Tram Haus Lodge, first phase of $100M project

Jay Peak Vermont officially opened the new Tram Haus Lodge today at 11 a.m, amidst a large crowd and bright sun reflecting off the freshly fallen snow. Jay Peak President Bill Stenger officiated a ribbon cutting ceremony and gave a short address at the Tower Bar inside the Tram Haus Lodge, followed by a Q&A session, light refreshments and tours of the new facilities. Also attending were state and local officials Kevin Dorn, Vermont Secretary of Commerce, and Chuck Ross, Senator Leahy’s Chief of Staff.
The Tram Haus Lodge opening represents the first phase of a $100 million dollar development plan at the resort. The hotel comprises 57 luxury suites, Alice’s Table restaurant, the Tower Bar, Aroma’s café, Taiga Fitness Studio and Spa, rental and repair shops, and underground heated parking for hotel guests. Additional infrastructure will be opening in subsequent phases of the development plan, including an indoor ice arena, golf clubhouse, and Nordic center in the spring of 2010, and additional hotel space and a sophisticated aquatics facility in the summer of 2011.
The Tram Haus Lodge, along with the broader development plan, is notable for its dedicated focus on benefiting Jay and local communities.
§ Fifteen new, management-level hires have been made, to-date, to oversee operations at the new lodge and guest facilities. All are from local towns.
§ As additional new facilities and guest amenities come on-line over the next two years, Jay Peak will add hundreds of high quality, full time jobs.
§ Financing for the project was structured to provide the maximum benefit to the economic growth and development of the Jay area, and the Northeast Kingdom. The project leveraged the federal government’s EB-5 Visa plan, which ties local job creation to investment in the project.
§ All contractors and subcontractors on the project, from initial design to construction, are Vermont companies.
§ The Tram Haus Lodge features state-of-the-art energy and water efficiency features to protect the valuable natural resources and character of the resort’s pristine setting.
§ Furnishings and appointments for the Lodge suites feature the work of a range of Vermont manufacturers and artisans, including hardwood furniture by Lyndon Furniture, wool blankets by Johnson Woolen Mills, and photography and artwork from a variety local artists and Jay employees.
The new 57-suite Tram Haus Lodge at Jay Peak offers a mix of studio, 1 and 2 bedroom units (with one 3-bedroom suite) each with fireplace, flat screen televisions, full kitchens, decks and sweeping mountain and valley views. Tram Haus Lodge will feature a new bar and restaurant with seating for up to 180, a fitness center, a coffee shop and bakery and a small retail store. All packages will include a full breakfast and full dinner as well as locker and fitness center privileges. The property was designed around skiers and riders, with lockers with room for multiple sets of equipment only steps from the slopes, good coffee, easy access to equipment repair and demo, and plenty of in-room storage.
The Tram Haus Lodge is the first new resort facility to open in a multi-year, four season, $100 million development plan. Construction has started on a new Ice Arena, Nordic Center, and Golf Clubhouse, scheduled to come online by the early spring of 2010.
