Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont to Sponsor Champlain Quadricentennial

Customers and members of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont (BCBSVT) may take advantage of special discounts and offers for selected events at the Burlington International Waterfront Festival from July 2 to July 14, the company announced today.
The Burlington International Waterfront Festival will include an array of events and activities to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the expedition led by French explorer Samuel de Champlain to the waters now known as Lake Champlain. BCBSVT will host several events as part of the company's sponsorship of the festival.
Information about the exciting events is listed below.
400 Years of Healthcare in Vermont Exhibit
Take a historic look at medicine and health care in Vermont through the ages. We've teamed with the Shelburne Museum, the Hood Museum at Dartmouth College, the University of Vermont and the St. Albans Historical Society to put together a historical exhibit showing the progression of health care from the time of Champlain's first steps in Vermont to the present day. The exhibit features artifacts, posters and other information about Vermont's role in our developing health care environment. July 2-12 at the Metropolitan Gallery in Burlington's City Hall
Special Edition Harbor Walks by Queen City Tours
You may have heard about the "Queen City Ghost Walks" that have gained popularity each year in Burlington around Halloween. These walks feature not only spooky tales, but also a dash of humor and a healthy dose of Burlington history. Queen City Tours, the organization that created the Ghost Walks, will host special-edition history walks during the Quadricentennial celebration. The tours will concentrate on the waterfront, where many of the city's historic events took place.
These tours are offered free to a limited number of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont members. Tour dates and times appear below:
July 2 to 4 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
July 5 at 3 p.m.
July 6 to 11 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
July 12 at 3 p.m.
Blue Canoe and Kayak Race
Did you know that Samuel de Champlain first entered the lake in a canoe? Celebrate that historic moment (and get up and move) with a canoe and kayak race. Grab a family member, friend or co-worker and compete in an easy-going, recreational race designed to be fun for all ages and paddling levels. Prizes will be awarded, but the real reward will come from paddling for a good cause. The proceeds from this event benefits Dragonheart Vermont, a breast cancer support group and dragon boat team and the Burlington International Waterfront Festival (Quadricentennial) effort itself. Canoe Imports and the Burlington Community Sailing Center will lend their support to this event. July 12 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Burlington's North Beach
