Vermont s top academic achievers will be honored by the State Board of Education at an event to be held Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 4 p.m. at Mt. Abraham Union High School in Bristol.
The students will be recognized for their achievements in the statewide spelling bee, debate, forensics, Geo Bee, top AP and SAT scores and much more. The event is open to the public.

Students attend the US Senate Youth Program which brings 2 high school students to Washington, DC for a brief introduction to the functions of the federal government -- particularly the Senate. Delegates participate in Washington activities throughout the week-long stay, including visits to the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Supreme Court, and the Pentagon, and hear major addresses by senators, cabinet members, and officials of the Department of State and the Department of Defense, as well as other federal departments.

Five South Burlington High School students were recognized by Lt. Governor Brian Dubie for winning the first ever Vermont Real World Design Challenge. The students task was to design an airplane wing that was fuel efficient on both take-off and landing. The PTC software is the same computer-assisted design (CAD) software used by professional engineers. National Competition is March 20.
