Champlain Cable receives qualification for US Navy shipboard cable

Champlain Cable Corporation, continuing its supply and development efforts of Irradiation Crosslinked Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) voice and data twisted pair shipboard communication cables, has received its second qualification from the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) for lightweight shipboard cable specification MIL-DTL-24643.
This qualification listing is for M24643/64 Government Designation LSTPSJ, all sizes. These cables were developed specifically for secure voice and low speed data communication networks aboard US Navy vessels, but can be used for a variety of communication / control / instrumentation / electronic applications. The cables range in size from 14 AWG to 24 AWG stranded conductor and 1 to 4 pair counts. All types are shielded.
This marks the second major milestone in Champlain Cable's emergence as a major cable supplier to the US Navy. Champlain Cable's first qualification to M24643/59 resulted in supply to the US Navy's Gig-E project, providing a critical component for Ethernet-type data communication networks aboard US Navy vessels. The project has been highly successful, and installers and testers have reported flawless cable installation and performance.
"This family of shielded twisted pair cables covers a wide range of sizes and applications and is an excellent drop-in replacement of fluoropolymer insulated cables currently being used," said Richard "Dick" Kruger, Champlain's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Up to now, there has not been an adequate replacement for these legacy halogenated cables. Now there is a wide range of Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) options for intra- and inter-cabinet wiring for a wide variety of applications."
Champlain Cable continues its development for the US Navy by pursuing other cable styles intended for deployment in shipboard communication, instrumentation, and electronic applications.
