The King Street Center welcomed a surprise gift of $2,500 from FairPoint Communications last week which will be used to enhance the current food offerings to the pre-school, after-school and teen programs at the Center. Michael Smith, Vermont State President, Eric LaChance, Account Executive, Peter Constant, Business Sales Manager, and Sabina Haskell, Public Relations Manager from FairPoint Communications visited the King Street Center to deliver the gift directly to Executive Director, Vicky Smith. FairPoint Communications is also four-year sponsor of the King Street Center Bob Aldrich Memorial Golf Tournament.

Smith says, ‘We’ve noticed a heightened need for food throughout all of our programs this year. Parents and younger siblings of pre-schoolers are now lingering at drop-off to participate in the warm breakfast we serve each day. Teens are asking for more filling snacks as they tackle their homework during evening programs. This gift from FairPoint will help us to provide this basic ‘ but critical need.’
Annually serving more than 500 children and families in the Burlington area, King Street Center is:
â ¢ A Five-Star accredited preschool for 15 children ages 3-5. We are a Head Start partner center and all of our spaces are Head Start eligible.
â ¢ A large and diverse afterschool program for children in grades K-5 that includes homework help, technology education, athletics, and the arts.
â ¢ An innovative afterschool program for middle- and high-school youth that focuses on academic achievement, job training, and college preparation.
â ¢ A safe, welcoming place where teens meet in the evenings to do homework, use a computer, or play sports with friends.
â ¢ Home to one of the largest mentoring programs in the state, where children are matched one-on-one with caring adults in the community.
â ¢ Home to ‘Kids on the Ball,’ our year-round, USTA-certified tennis program for children of all ages.
â ¢ A gathering place for many community groups and non-profit organizations.
â ¢ A proud member agency of the United Way of Chittenden County.
