Weekly unemployment claims cut in half from last week

There were 664 new regular benefit claims for Unemployment Insurance last week, a decrease of 596 from the week before. Altogether 7678 new and continuing claims were filed, a decrease of 154 from a week ago and 2,649 fewer than a year earlier. The Department also processed 1,603 First Tier claims for benefits under Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08), 41 fewer than a week ago. In addition, there were 783 Second Tier claims for benefits processed under the EUC08 program, which is a decrease of 13 from the week before.
