More than 100 local employers expected to offer career and internship opportunities at the Champlain College Job Fair which will be held today. It is free and open to the public. It is a great opportunity to talk to employers about the local job market, job-seekers and soon-to-be college graduates.
CHAMPLAIN COLLEGE SPRING JOB FAIR ‘ Monday, March 28, 1:30 ‘ 5:30 p.m., Champlain College Argosy Gymnasium, 262 Soth Willard St, Burlington. The Champlain College Job Fair is free and open to the public. More than 100 area businesses and organizations will be represented, offering career, internship and summer employment opportunities. Participants will also have an opportunity to attend five practical career-related workshops on emerging career fields and strategies for the job search and making career decisions. The workshops, offered by Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, feature qualified and experienced professionals.
· Emerging Industry Career Opportunities Panel - 2 to 2:45 p.m., Alumni Auditorium. Learn from experienced professionals and discover career opportunities and skills needed in growing industries and how to go about pursuing them.
· Be Your Own Boss: Starting Your Own Business - 3 to 3:45 p.m., Hauke Conference Room. Those who want to start a business need to have a plan. Use this workshop to learn how to write a business plan. This workshop is also geared toward people already in businesses that want to improve their performance, get financing, or expand.
· Guerilla Tactics in the Job Market - 3 to 3:45 p.m., Alumni Auditorium. A quick overview on how to separate yourself from every other job-seeker, how to stand out, and what strategies you can use to make job hunting more successful. Topics include what’s really important to employers; how to match your skills to the job you want; how to think of yourself in terms of your strengths and skills; and other tips on job-hunting strategies.
· The New Hidden Job Market - 4 to 4:45 p.m., Alumni Auditorium. Learn to research and find jobs that are not posted in ads or on job sites.
· Social Media: Marketing Yourself - 4 to 4:45 p.m., Hauke Conference Room. Social media provides the best and most interesting relationship building tools around. Focus on how you can channel change through different types of social media. This is NOT a talk on how to technically use Twitter, Facebook or blogs. It is a talk about knowing what to use them for.
