Marlboro College launches new master's degree for managing mission-driven organizations

Building on the success of its Certificate in Nonprofit Management, Marlboro College Graduate School introduces a new Master of Science in Management for Mission-Driven Organizations. Applications are currently being accepted for classes starting in May 2011.
The 36-credit program provides MBA-level coursework tailored to nonprofit organizations, such as fundraising, outcomes and evaluations, budgeting and strategic planning. As a master of science in management, the program can also benefit social entrepreneurs with a mission-driven focus.
Nearly 300 people across the region have completed Marlboro's nonprofit management certificate program in the past three years, according to Kate Jellema, director of Marlboro's Nonprofit Management program, which includes the new master's. When many of the graduates expressed an interest in advanced coursework, Jellema says Marlboro was able to expand on its specialties from the certificate and also tap into the classes and faculty of its MBA in Managing for Sustainability to develop a program more suited to the needs of nonprofits.
"The Managing Mission-Driven Organizations faculty is comprised of experienced nonprofit leaders from the region and some of the country's foremost thinkers on sustainable management," says Jellema."Students will establish and expand their professional network while developing the skills to guide their organizations through the impact of the recent recession and provide better service to their communities."
Marlboro's curricular approach enables students to apply coursework immediately to the challenges and goals of their organization, while electives provide an opportunity to include elements of education, health care, sustainability or technology. Online coursework is balanced with monthly face-to-face sessions at Marlboro College Graduate School, located at 28 Vernon Street in downtown Brattleboro, Vermont.
