When disaster strikes, people mobilize. And in recent cases like tropical storm Irene and then with Hurricane Sandy, the outpouring of donations and volunteers is plentiful. However, as time passes, donations become fewer, and volunteers often move on to other causes or return to their everyday lives. But the need is often still ongoing. This is the case with many of the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Boves, which is best known for their sauce, has teamed up with Hannaford Supermarkets to donate food to the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Boves will contribute 10,000 jars of sauce, while Hannaford has donated 5,000 pounds of pasta. Overall, this represents a $50,000 donation.
Since the storm hit we have wanted to help in some way, explained Mark Bove, president of Boves. The timing just seems right now after speaking with customers in and around Staten Island and in New Jersey. There is still an overwhelming need.
The donation will be made through Convoy of Hope, which will pick up the food, drive it to the tri-state area and work with donation coordinators to make sure that it reaches families in need who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy.
