Peoples United Bank announced today that they have made a $2,500 donation to Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC).
The funding from Peoples United Bank will support the education and training that occurs on the Farm at VYCC, said Thomas Hark, President, VYCC. At-risk youth employed during the summer months and at-risk high school students will gain workforce readiness skills and learn the value of hard work.
The VYCCs mission is to teach individuals to take personal responsibility for all their actions. VYCC believes youth can and must learn how to address the challenges and opportunities they will encounter in the 21st century. The VYCC provides the skills and knowledge that youth need to make a positive difference. By experiencing success at a young age, VYCC alumni are able to effect change, and thus incorporate the values of hard work and service into their personal and professional lives.
Since their founding in 1985, VYCC has served more than 5,500 young people from every county and nearly every town in Vermont. Crew members have completed more than fifty-million dollars worth of priority conservation work throughout the state, helping to conserve and protect Vermonts natural resources while promoting an ethic of personal responsibility among the diverse members who comprise their crews. Today, the VYCC is Vermonts leading environmental and education organization that provides inspiring and rewarding work opportunities for young people throughout the state.
VYCC is well known for its high-quality work and education programs, said Michael Seaver, President, Peoples United Bank Vermont Division. We support VYCC because they address a real public need through school programs, watershed restoration, park management, trail maintenance and construction, transportation enhancements, and historic preservation work.
