Winterset Inc, was recently awarded for their Outstanding Quality of Work and Effort, in the Highway and New Construction category, by the Associated General Contractors of Vermont (AGC/VT), at its annual Best Builders Award Ceremony held on December 4 at the Hilton Hotel in South Burlington.
A general contractor from Lyndonville, Winterset won for their project in Cabot that involved reconstruction of 1.458 miles of U.S. Route 2. Their work included widening a portion of the road, including grading, drainage, sub base, pavement, related work, penstock replacement, stream relocation, precast box culvert, and 35.5 acre wetland mitigation site.
The project was necessary after the severe flooding and damage caused on Memorial Day and Labor Day in 2011.
The Agency of Transportation designed a four phase detour to accommodate the work. Winterset modified the design and installed a temporary bridge. By completing the MSE wall and box culvert in one phase, Winterset saved time by moving commuters who used the road only once, and paved only once instead of the four times planned for.
