People's United Bank awards $5,000 to David's House

Peoples United Bank announced today that they have made a $5,000 donation to Davids House in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
Davids House is truly appreciative of our relationship with Peoples United Bank and their commitment to the community. As an independent non-profit organization, we rely 100% on community support to keep our doors open 365 days to families counting on us during their childs hospitalization. This gift allows us to continue providing a safe and comfortable environment during such a difficult time.
Davids House was founded in the memory of a young boy named David Cyr who passed away at the age of five from leukemia. Living nearby, it was easy for Dick and Gerry Cry to be with David whenever he was hospitalized, but they met many parents who were unwilling to leave their childs side, or slept in their cars or on the hospital floor because they were unable to afford any length of stay in a hotel. Out of his grief when Davids doctor told the Cyrs that five-year-old David had just months to live, Dick asked the doctor, Why isnt there a place for families like ours to stay? There had been talk of such a place, the doctor said, but nothing had ever come of it. Dick replied, Were going to build a place, and were going to call it Davids House. David passed away on September 8, 1984 and within a week, the Cyrs and their friends and family were raising money for Davids House. Davids own $300.78 in birthday money and spare change became the seed money of this home-away-from-home, and on January 20, 1986 Davids House in Lebanon, NH opened its doors.

We are pleased to provide this donation to Davids House, said Michael Seaver, President, Peoples United Bank in Vermont. Davids House provides a critical service to parents and family members whose only wish is to remain close to their loved ones.
