The Vermont Department of Labor (VDOL) announced today upcoming changes to the Federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation 2008 program (EUC 08). These changes are mandated by the federal Employment and Training Administration which regulates and oversees the federal funding portion of the Unemployment fund in Vermont. As of September 2, 2012 eligibility for individuals starting Tier 1 extended benefits will be reduced from 20 weeks to 14 weeks of extended benefits.
Regular Unemployment benefits are available for a period of up to 26 weeks. Currently, extended
benefits under Tier 1 are 20 weeks; however, that will change to a total of up to 14 weeks effectiveSeptember 2nd. This change only affects individuals who will be starting a new period of Tier 1benefits effective September 2, 2012 or later. Individuals already filing under a Tier 1 benefit programprior to September 2, 2012 will see no change in their maximum benefit entitlement.
The Vermont Department of Labor has 12 regional Career Resource Centers that match up qualifiedjob seekers with Vermont employers with current job openings. In addition, the VDOL staff can workwith people to determine if they are eligible under federal programs for job training and jobdevelopment in programs such as ‘On the Job Training’, Dislocated Worker program, TradeAdjustment benefits, Veterans Services, and a host of other programs offering help to Vermonters.
