Governor Peter Shumlin swore in Jeffrey Kilgore this morning as probate judge to replace George Belcher for the Probate Division of the Washington Unit of the Superior Court.
‘Jeff has solid experience in probate issues and an extensive legal career,’ Governor Shumlin said. ‘That experience, as well as his knowledge of county government, make him an asset to the bench.’
Kilgore, who lives in Waterbury, is an attorney whose practice since 1988 has included trusts and estate planning, real estate, taxation, and various corporate matters. He has been an adjunct professor at Vermont Law School, an Associate Professor of Business and Economics at Norwich University, and Special Counsel to the Department of Public Service. He has also served as moderator for Waterbury’s town meeting for the past nine years.
He graduated from Vermont Law School in 1978. He also received an LLM degree in taxation from Boston University School of Law in 1988 and a Master’s degree in economics from Michigan State University in 1975.
The swearing in took place at the Washington Superior Court in Montpelier.
