Overwhelming demand by Vermont Cities, Towns and school districts emptied the staging area organized by the Department of Buildings and General Services Thursday to dispose of office inventory stranded at the State Office complex by last year’s devastating floods. While a team of State office workers and movers attempted to replenish the inventory dozens of officials from Vermont schools and municipalities combed through the warehouse tagging furnishings as they came off the loading dock eager to transport them back to their communities.
‘Unfortunately, we couldn’t keep up with the demand’stated Michael Obuchowski, Commissioner of Buildings and General Services. The turnout for the first day of the Tag Sale far exceeded our expectations and demonstrated the need for these furnishings. We are pleased that so much of this inventory is making its way back in to our communities to be reused and avoiding the need for taxpayer dollars to be spent.’That is the good news.
The bad news is that the Tag Sale for nonprofit organizations planned for tomorrow, Friday, July 13th has been postponed for the warehouse to be restocked. A significant inventory including desks, chairs, tables, bookcases, lamps, file cabinets, office fans, air conditioners, office supplies, desk organizers, blackboards, whiteboards, and miscellaneous supplies will be removed from upper floors of the State complex and transported to the warehouse in the days ahead.
‘We are hoping all Vermont communities and nonprofit organizations still needing office equipment, furniture, and supplies will take advantage of the remaining inventory’said Commissioner Obuchowski.
