Kilawatt Technologies and NorthCountry Federal Credit Union have announced the final installation of a web-based Building Energy Control System at their Swift Street building. This innovative system utilizes individual energy management nodes to replace the older manual and programmable thermostats. The advantages of this system include data trending to manage the energy via statistically-based analysis, non-proprietary web interface to allow building managers to meet occupant needs from anywhere, and the reduction of total energy consumption.
Based on the initial data collected from the system over the installation period, the goals of the project include:
Occupant Comfort: The occupant comfort issues have been significantly reduced and we continue to strive for total elimination.
Energy Reduction: The energy reduction goals originally established 15% total energy reduction will be met. Further evaluation will likely refine this to include: approximately 50% reduction in Natural Gas consumption and approximately 25% reduction in HVAC electric load.
Equipment Savings: Kilawatt Technologies is developing a strategic plan to permanently remove between 17% and 25% of the currently installed heat pumps over the next five years.
The achievement of these goals will provide NorthCountry Federal Credit Union with a multifaceted Return on Investment for:
1) Total Energy Reduction ‘Return on Investment of approximately 3 years.
2) Elimination of up to 25% of the heat pumps ‘Return on Investment of approximately 4 years
