This summer, Cape Air, the airline that serves Rutland-Southern Vermont Regional Airport will be adding a fourth daily round-trip flight to Boston-Logan International Airport. The decision to add a fourth flight comes after a record number of passengers used Cape Air in 2011. Last year, Cape Air carried over 11,600 passengers in and out of the Rutland Airport. That is a 21% increase over Cape Airâ s first full year of service in 2008.

We see a bright future for air travel from Rutland-Southern Vermont Regional Airport,’said Searles.
Cape Air has been able to effectively serve the Rutland Airport through the Essential Air Service Program, a program that subsidizes flights to rural airports that are geographically distant or isolated from large or medium-hub airports such as Boston-Logan or Bradley International Airport in Connecticut. Cape Air serves the Rutland Airport with one of the lowest subsidies in the country. In fact, the fourth round-trip flight that began on June 29th will be completely unsubsidized.
As a commercial service airport, Rutland-Southern Vermont Regional is only the second airport in the State of Vermont with scheduled passenger airline service. Located in the south-central part of the state at the base of both the Taconic and Green Mountains, the airport is strategically located amongst the southern resorts, providing the fastest transportation option for vacationers and business travelers alike.
