Vermont Children’s Hospital selected for US News & World Report’s 'Best Children’s Hospitals' list

US News & World Report has cited two pediatric specialties at Vermont Childrenâ s Hospital at Fletcher Allen Health Care as being among the best in the nation. The magazineâ s health care experts have determined that both pulmonology and gastroenterology care ranks at or near the top 25% of pediatric centers nationwide, qualifying Vermont Childrenâ s for the magazineâ s Best Childrenâ s Hospitals list. It is the only childrenâ s hospital identified in northern New England and northern New York state on the list.

â Weâ re delighted to receive this important recognition from U.S. News & World Report,’ said Lewis First, MD, chief of Pediatrics at Vermont Childrenâ s Hospital. â I congratulate all of our expert providers and staff in Pulmonology and Gastroenterology, along with our entire team at Vermont Childrenâ s, who dedicate themselves to ensuring their patients receive the best quality of care possible.’

â This ranking comes on the heels of several national acknowledgements of the high quality of care provided at Fletcher Allen, including placement on the U.S. News Best Regional Hospitals list earlier this year,’said John Brumsted, M.D., president and chief executive officer. â Weâ re very proud that parents in our region can be confident their children are receiving care as good as can be found anywhere in the country.â
â Our goal at U.S. News is to identify the pediatric centers which excel at helping the sickest children,’said Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow.’Vermont Childrenâ s Hospital deserves high praise for having the reservoir of expertise reflected in this recognition.â
U.S. News surveyed 178 pediatric centers and 1,500 pediatric specialists to make its determinations. In addition to rankings, the â Best Childrenâ s Hospitals’survey provides quality-related information including survival rates, adequacy of nurse staffing, availability of key resources, and ability to prevent complications and infections, among other factors.
The full rankings and methodology are available at www.usnews.com/childrenshospitals. The rankings will also be published in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2013 guidebook, which will be available in August.
