Weekly unemployment claims in Vermont fell significantly for the first time since mid-winter last week. For the week there were 714 new regular benefit claims for Unemployment Insurance in Vermont. This is a decrease of 384 claims from the week before, and 256 fewer than last year's total.
Altogether 8,623 new and continuing claims were filed, a decrease of 600 from a week ago and 1,741 fewer than a year ago. The Department also processed 1,501 First Tier claims for benefits under Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08), 27 more than a week ago. In addition, there were 715 Second Tier claims for benefits processed under the EUC08 program, which is 23 fewer than the week before.
