Vermont Sports Magazine debuts new look

Vermont Sports Magazinedebuts a whole new look this month, as the 20-year-old publication has freshened up with a glossy cover and layout redesign.
The magazine, published in Orleans, Vt., covers the outdoors in Vermont and Northern New England, including hiking, biking, skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing and more.
The cover and redesign are the latest in a series of changes to the magazine that aim to better reflect the outdoor scene in Vermont, including more coverage for budding athletes and weekend warriors.
‘The new cover makes you want to dive right into the issue,’ said Sky Barsch Gleiner, Vermont Sports’ publisher and editor (and recipient of a 2011 Vermont Business Magazine Rising Star Award). ‘The glossy paper makes our cover photos pop, and it gives our advertisers a nice option to help market their products.’
The redesign aims to better convey the tone of the magazine’focusing more on the outdoor lifestyle rather than solely competitive pursuits.
‘Our designer, Shawn Braley, has captured the feel of the outdoors and presented it in a clear and attractive manner,’ Barsch Gleiner said. ‘He has done a wonderful job by paying attention to the smallest details.’
Also new in the January issue is Race Recap, a Q&A with a participant in a local race or event, designed to give readers honest feedback on local events (written by Phyl Newbeck); and Gear and Beer, in which new gear editor Josh Gleiner will review two outdoor-related products and one local beer each month.
And, Vermont Sports is holding a readers’ choice survey, The Black Diamond of Excellence Awards from Vermont Sports, to honor the ‘best of’ in Vermont’s outdoor scene. Voting, atvtsports.com/survey, is open until Jan. 31.
‘All of these changes are designed to make the magazine more reader-friendly, and to better interact with readers, so we can appeal to all outdoor-enthusiasts, from newbies to Olympians,’ said Barsch Gleiner.
Vermont Sports is available at no cost at most outdoor shops in Vermont, as well as select locations in Boston, Fairfield County, Conn., New York and New Hampshire. Subscriptions are available to have the magazine delivered to your door.
