Powdr Corporation, the parent company of Killington Pico Ski Resort Partners, has donated $50,000 of funds to Killington Mountain School (KMS) today. The gift from John Cumming, CEO of Powdr Corp. was presented to KMS by Killington Resort president and general manager Mike Solimano.’
The funds will be used to build a permanent KMS training and race course on the lower portion of the Killington Resort trail Highline, in an area which has also been donated to the program. The permanent training venue will allow KMS students to spend more time training, and on this specialized terrain which includes trail widening, grading, permanent fencing, additional snowmaking and lighting. This is one of the most ambitious East Coast trail changes specifically for ski racing in recent history.’
‘We are excited for the future of KMS and the local ski community in light of this donation from Powdr Corp.,’ says Mike Solimano, president and general manager of Killington Pico Ski Resort Partners. ‘We are lucky to have KMS teaching young athletes on our mountain and we support their long term goals of growing educational programs while improving athlete safety.’’
Approximately 1,200 regional athletes will train on the new KMS course each year. The course will be open to the public when training and racing are not underway, and will host other resort race series.’
Infrastructure improvements are expected to be complete by the end of summer 2014 with additional improvements such as a surface lift to be added later. Killington Mountain School offers training programs in alpine racing, mogul skiing, snowboarding, and free skiing.
