Barton resident, David Snedeker has been named Executive Director of the Northeastern Vermont Development Association. ‘ He takes over the post from Steven H. Patterson, who is retiring in mid-December.
John Morley, NVDA President made the announcement following a meeting of the Executive Committee last week.
"Dave has the credentials and experience to step into this critically important position," Morley said. ‘ "We were lucky to have this experience on staff. ‘ It will now allow for a smooth transition."
As Executive Director, Snedeker will oversee both regional planning and economic development efforts in the three counties of Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans. ‘
"I look forward to the opportunities and challenges offered in this position. ‘ NVDA plays a huge role in setting the stage for job creation and that will continue to be our top priority." Snedeker said. ‘ "NVDA has the advantage of combining our planning expertise with our economic development specialties."
Patterson, who served as Executive Director for more than a decade, also praised Snedeker's appointment.
"Dave has been critical in helping guide our work in many areas, as well as taking the lead on several major projects," Patterson said.
Patterson cited Snedeker's work on the newly created Foreign Trade Zone as one example.
"Many companies in the region will be able to import goods at enormous savings because of his work,"
Patterson said.
He also noted Snedeker's work on the Regional Plan, specifically the energy planning effort as exemplary work done by Snedeker.
"I am very proud of our staff and the work they have done during the past ten years. ‘ I am confident that under Dave's leadership NVDA will move to an even higher level effectiveness," Patterson said.
Morley noted Snedeker's prior involvement in local government on the Barton Planning Commission and Select Board is another strong asset.
"Dave understands local government and the Northeast Kingdom. ‘ This is enormously valuable when you consider NVDA is responsible for serving 55 communities," Morley said.
Snedeker has worked at NVDA for the past several years, serving as Planning Manager and then Deputy Director. ‘ He and his wife Johanna live in Barton with their two children, Abigail and Quinn. ‘
