VBSR and Local First Vermont celebrate the local economy with the 2013/2014 Buy Local Book

Local First Vermont promotes the importance of supporting locally owned, independent Vermont businesses. The popular and annual Buy Local Book is once again available so people can learn more about Vermont locally owned businesses and all they have to offer. This creative 300 page book includes stories, people profiles, resource guides, important facts about supporting Vermont businesses, a local scavenger hunt contest, a coloring page for kids and endorsements from the State leaders. The coupon section of the Buy Local Book includes over 200 coupons to businesses in Chittenden, Addison, Washington and Lamoille counties.
Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin offered enthusiastic support for the Buy Local Book. ‘Vermonters are proud to support their neighbors by shopping at local stores, eating at local restaurants and supporting other local businesses,’ Gov. Peter Shumlin said. ‘I thank Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility for working hard to promote our employers, and appreciate all the students who take on this important mission as part of their school fundraising. Through the Buy Local Book program, everybody wins.’
The Buy Local Book offers an up-to-date spotlight on Vermont people, their businesses and important aspects of the economy. Local First Vermont manager, Calen King, said, ‘people love the Buy Local Book ‘it's fun, informative, affordable and can save people a significant amount of money while supporting Local Vermont businesses. She also noted that, "this year we have been receiving calls and employers seem to be recognizing that this would be a great gift for their clients and personnel for the holiday season." We created these book to achieve three goals,’ said King of VBSR. ‘We want to educate Vermonters about why supporting the local economy is in everyone’s best interests, help consumers find locally owned and independently operated businesses, and raise funds to support educational and public policy efforts of Local First Vermont.’
The Buy Local Book is published annually and sold both as a school fundraiser by students for their own programs, as well as being offered by some of the businesses featured in the book. Local First Vermont is a program of Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility. To find out where you can buy a book go to: http://www.localfirstvermont.org
